Screen on the Green

From June 21st until September 1st, NE1 is returning with Screen on the Green, a completely open air cinema in the heart of Newcastle! Located in Old Eldon Square, Screen on the Green is the perfect summer activity for friends, families or anyone wanting to get out and about in the sunshine. In addition to screening two feature films a day during the six weeks of school summer holidays, there will also be screenings of a range of sporting events including the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Cricket World Cup and the British Grand Prix. Wylam Brewery

Founded in 2000, Wylam Brewery is a Micro Brewery that is situated in the beautiful Palace of Arts in Exhibition Park, just a stone’s throw away from us here at Great North Hotel. Their brews are enjoyed in various amazing pubs throughout the country and there’s no better place to enjoy the summer sun with a nice cold pint! But don’t be mistaken, Wylam Brewery also offers a range of free and paid events over the summer for families or adult only events. There’s plenty to choose from with live music events from local and nationwide acts, food festivals celebrating international street food cuisine and DJ events that are sure to make you want to get up and dance! Durham 

While staying with us, you can travel to the beautiful, historical city of Durham that’s connected to us through widespread and regular public transportation links. Explore the city center in the sun or rain with a range of shops, bars, restaurants that everyone can enjoy, and don’t forget to have a wander up to Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle! Beamish, the Living Museum of the North is also only a short drive away, whether you’re a history buff or just looking to have some fun with family or friends, Beamish has a wide range of activities and events for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer months! Tynemouth 

One of our greatest features here in the North East is our beautiful coastline, and with Tynemouth beach a short 20 minute drive away with direct and regular public transport links, it would be a shame not to explore while you’re staying with us! Right on the coast, the centre of Tynemouth always has plenty to do, especially over the summer months with a market hosted every weekend, you can get your fill of food, drinks, trinkets, and everything in between. Why not take the kids on an underwater adventure at The Sealife Centre or take in some history at Tynemouth Castle and Priory?
